What is dental implant restoration?
Dental implant restoration essentially means replacing a missing tooth in your mouth. A dental implant is placed inside the bone of your mouth and then a restoration that looks like a crown. It looks and feels the same as your tooth and it restores the normal anatomy of the tooth.
How is a dental implant restoration performed?
Implant restoration is a very simple process. Once the implant is placed and we give the go-ahead that it's ready to be restored, meaning it's ready to have the crown fitted on, the healing cap is removed. We take scans of your implant, send the scans to the lab, and they manufacture permanent crowns.
Then, you come back to see us. At that time, we'll remove the healing cap from the implant and place the tooth or the crown on. That's it.
What are screw-retained restorations?
Screw-retained restorations are easily done on single implant restorations. It's very simple and easy. It's much better than dental implants remaining in your mouth as long as there is no active infection in that implant area or no immune disorder such as uncontrolled diabetes.
When do dental implants need to be replaced?
Dental implants don't need to be replaced unless the crown becomes loose. If that is the case, then you need to see your dentist or come and see us, and we can replace the crowns easily.
What causes dental implant failures?
It's not very common to have dental implant failures. The reason implants may fail is due to active infection in the bone of your implant area. We try our best to save a failing implant, but if it cannot be saved, it can be removed and then replaced in the future by another dental implant.
How can you best maintain dental implants?
The key element is to maintain good oral hygiene at home, visit the dentist every 3 to 6 months depending on your care, and keep that area very clean by brushing and flossing.
How long does implant restoration take?
Implant restoration shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes, maybe a half-hour appointment of you coming in and going out. You might not notice, but your dentist will have a timeline for you. After the placement of the dental implant, they will bring you back in a couple of months for a follow-up to do a torque test.
Once the implant is completely embedded inside the bone and adhered to the bone in the right manner, they are ready to be restored.
